YOUNG TRANSLATORS

Four 2º de Bachillerato students have taken part this morning in the European contest "Juvenes Translatores", representing I.E.S. Fidiana.
Alicia Reverte, Elena Núñez, Luis Romero and Javier Cazalla are all brilliant students who have followed through the C.L.I.L. Programme in our school,  all of them members of the first promotion of "bilingual" pupils who started out six years ago.
"Juvenes Translatores" is an annual constest set up by the European Union in order to award young translators across the continent. Luis, Alicia, Elena and Javier had two hours (from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m.) to translate an English text (provided by the organisers a few minutes before the starting time) into Spanish with the only help of a printed dictionary. Such test took place simultaneously in more than 300 schools throughout Europe. A winner form each member state will have the chance to travel to Brussels to receive the award.
Good job, and good luck!!!

A NEW GENERATION OF C.L.I.L. STUDENTS

One of the features of our C.L.I.L. Programme this year is the fact that all 1º ESO students, two whole classes,  are following it. There is no distinction, therefore, between C.L.I.L. and non-C.L.I.L. students, as there used to be in the previous years.
They all seem to have adapted quite well to the requirements of this type of teaching, and they look happy about their C.L.I.L. lessons. At the end of the year we will be able to assess the success of this new "coffee for everybody" approach.

NEW C.L.I.L. TEACHERS

Purificación Miralles (Philosophy), Susana Merino (Technology) and Luis Águila (Biology) are the new members of the C.L.I.L. team this year. They are replacing Rocío Fernández, Maribel del Río and Carmen Granados, who have been walking along with us on the trail of bilingual education for some time and have recently left the school. Our farewell to them, with a grateful feeling for their contribution to our Programme, and our welcome to Pura, Susana and Luis, wishing them all the best for the year ahead. Let's hope at the end of June they will still be keeping that smile they had this morning when this picture was taken: that will mean they have enjoyed a nice and satisfactory experience in I.E.S. Fidiana.

A NEW C.L.I.L. YEAR STARTS!

A new academic year has just begun, and it brings some interesting hits to Fidiana's C.L.I.L. Programme:
- All ESO 1 students starting this year are following a CLIL curriculum.
- Students are all mixed up (no more bilingual vs. non-bilingual group distinctions) except for the Content Subjects in each curriculum level. (See menu on the right for a list of content subjects).
- Some new C.L.I.L. teachers have joined the team, so replacing others who have left this year.
- The first promotion of C.L.I.L. students finish Bachillerato 2 next May.
Hopefully the months ahead will be quite enjoyable and productive.
Welcome back to school!!!

THANK YOU, FELICITY!

Felicity, our English Assistant, said Goodbye to students and teachers last May 31st, as her appointment as an assistant to our school was due to finish on that date. It was a "See you soon", rather than a "Goodbye", as she is staying  in Córdoba for one more year (not in Fidiana, unfortunately, but in a different school).
We wish her good luck in her new post and we will be glad to see her around in the city after the summer holidays.

Thanks, Felicity, for all your help and dedication!

PLURILINGUAL FAIR

Last Thursday April 26th the First Plurilingual Fair took place at I.E.S. Averroes (Córdoba). Organised by the C.E.P. "Luisa Revuelta", 18 primary and secondary schools from the province of Córdoba, which are involved in a C.L.I.L. Programme at present, exhibited their materials, pictures, textbooks, and lots of other resources and activities that take place in those schools.

I.E.S. Fidiana contributed to the showroom with a stand presenting part of the exhibits shown in our latest two years' C.L.I.L. Day. The Fair ended with a representation of two plays: one by a group of primary students, and Fidiana's successful black light theatre on the Olympics, which were quite appreciated by the public attending the fair.

2nd C.L.I.L. Day at I.E.S. Fidiana

Newspaper reviews:

Last March 7th our school celebrated its second edition of the C.L.I.L. Day at I.E.S. Fidiana, this way repeating last year's successful experience of devoting a day to show the work which the teachers and students involved in this Programme are developing.

All E.S.O. students took part in the activities of the day, teamed up in groups of four CLIL and non-CLIL students, as one of the main goals was to break up the distinctions between those pupils who are following the bilingual programme and those who are not.

During the central hours of the morning, the students visited an exhibition of pupil-made materials set up in the school's main hall. The different exhibits related aspects of the school content areas to the olympic sports.

Simultaneously, four sets of students in turn came into the school theatre and watched a "black light theatre" performance prepared by some of their schoolmates, which combined shadows and music played by the pupils themselves.

Finally, and for the last two hours, all the students were led to several rooms, where a simultaneous Jeopardy competition, in which our boys and girls could show their knowledge about the different subjects, was conducted by the CLIL teachers.

All this was possible thanks to the hard work of the team of  CLIL teachers and the enthusiasm and participation our school students.

We are looking forward to a new edition next year!

LAYLA WELCOME BACK TO FIDIANA

Our language assistant Layla has just arrived from London. She will be with us one more year. We are very glad to see her in Córdoba again.
